Being a martial artist focused on self-preservation aspects, I'm always interested in seeing other people's take on self-defense techniques. Just ran across this video of a self-defense demonstration in Sendai, Japan by Kudo (Daido-juku) practitioners.

I like that they do the techniques wearing some basic protective equipment, but it would have been interesting to see the attacker use more resistance and fight back a bit. But, all in all I think the techniques are very reminiscent of the Kempo / Kenpo Karate techniques I'm accustomed to.

Here's a bit on Kudo:

Kudo, or Daido juku, is a hybrid martial arts developed by Takashi Azuma. Azuma sensei was a practitioner / teacher of Kyokushinkai Karate prior to founding the Daido-juku in 1981. Kudo is a hybrid system which contains elements of Kyokushin Karate, Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ, Judo and Submission Wrestling (and other pragmatically oriented techniques).

Kudo is probably best known for their full-contact sparring / tournaments, which are reminiscent of MMA style fighting, wearing basic hand and foot protection along with their headgear (often referred to as a "space helmet"). Their fighting allow elbows and headbutts, as well as tackles, throws and ground fighting.
